EDITORIAL STANDARDS

How we rank, review, and stay honest

Unifai's value is only as good as our editorial process. Here's how we pick the tools we feature, how rankings work, how we handle affiliate relationships, and how we correct mistakes.

How we evaluate tools

Every tool in our directory is hand-evaluated by our editorial team before it goes live. We sign up for the free tier (or pay for the paid tier when needed), test the actual capabilities against real prompts, and document the strengths and weaknesses we observe. We do NOT rely on vendor marketing copy — every description on Unifai is rewritten in our own voice based on our own testing.

We re-evaluate tools quarterly. AI moves fast — a tool's quality can shift dramatically between model versions, and we update rankings and descriptions accordingly. Tools that quietly degrade in quality lose ranking. Tools that ship meaningful improvements gain ranking.

How rankings work

Rankings reflect a blend of: our editorial assessment of the tool's quality, real-world popularity signals (which tools our users actually visit and use), and category-specific criteria (commercial-safe licensing, free-tier generosity, capability depth, ease of use). For ranked lists like our 'Best AI tools for X' pages, the ranking is our judgment call — we explain WHY in each entry.

Paid placement does NOT influence ranking. Tools cannot pay to appear higher. The few tools we have affiliate relationships with are clearly labeled (see below) and their ranking is determined the same way as non-affiliate tools.

Affiliate disclosure

Some tools we list have affiliate programs we participate in. When you click through to an affiliate tool and sign up, Unifai may earn a commission — at no cost to you. We use these commissions to fund ongoing editorial work (testing, writing, maintaining the directory).

We disclose affiliate relationships clearly on every tool page that has one. Affiliate status does NOT affect a tool's ranking on Unifai. The rule we follow: if we wouldn't recommend a tool to a friend, we don't list it — affiliate or not.

Our use of AI in writing

We're an AI directory — of course we use AI in our editorial process. AI helps us draft, structure, and edit. But every piece of editorial content on Unifai is reviewed and approved by a human editor before publication. We never publish raw AI output as editorial content.

The descriptions of tools, the FAQ answers, the comparisons — all are reviewed for accuracy by humans who tested the tools. AI is a writing assistant, not the writer.
